C-LINK Gallery - OPENING RECEPTION - Friday, March 6 - "Discover" by Susan Byrnes, 6-8pm

Susan Byrnes
C-LINK Gallery (formerly gallery One One)
March 6, 6-8pm
Artist Talk - 7pm

In 2014, Cincinnati artist Susan Byrnes received one of five fellowships granted by the City’s Cincinnati Art Ambassador Fellowships Program to fund the creation of artwork for an exhibition project titled DISCOVER.
The completed project will be premiered on Friday, March 6th, in C-LINK Gallery at Brazee Street Studios.
DISCOVER is an art exhibition that combines glass, sound, and science. Inspired by research images, publication texts, and interviews with molecular biologists from Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center. DISCOVER explores the process and wonder of scientific discovery through a creative lens. The exhibition will include sound compositions that incorporate comments from scientists in response to questions such as, “is the moment of discovery a moment of epiphany?”, “how does risk and failure impact how you pursue new ideas?”, and “do you consider what you do to be creative?”. Blown and cast glass sculptures inspired by tools used in the science lab create a visual environment for the sound. A video installation will project larger than life images derived from research images made on a confocal microscope.
The opening reception, talk, and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Visiting Instructor - Nathan Sandberg - Back Again to Teach "Vitrigraph Murrine & Dropout Vessels"

Vitrigraph Murrine & Dropout Vessels with Nathan Sandberg

Date(s):  Thursday - Sunday, September 24 - 27, 2015
Time(s):  10:00am - 5:00pm each day
Brazee is thrilled to welcome back Visiting Instructor and Artist Nathan Sandberg for this 4-day comprehensive murrine dropout vessel workshop!

Capitalizing on the ways glass can be arranged in and flows from a crucible, students in this innovative workshop will learn to create reproducible decorative canes and intricate murrini using the Vitrigraph Kiln. These elements will then, immediately, be fused into a blank that will ultimately be used to explore the Dropout methods of slumping glass in the kiln. Students will learn the basics of working with the Vitrigraph kiln as well as a selection of updated/advanced methods of murrine making. Each student will create one Dropout vessel while learning the many variables involved in the dropout process of slumping.

$575 /student Artist and educator, Nathan Sandberg is based in Portland, Oregon.
